About This Site

This database covers 15 vellum contract documents from Morocco, spanning the sixteenth to nineteenth centuries, acquired by, and preserved at, the Toyo Bunko.

It has been created by the five members of the West Asian Studies Group, based on two publications in the Toyo Bunko Research Library series below, in collaboration with NAKAMURA Satoru, specialist of information science at the University of Tokyo.

Errors found after the publication of the books have been corrected in this database.

Book Publications

On the vellum documents, you will gain basic knowledge about their provenances, forms and historical situation, provided by our members and the scholars abroad in the publications below. Especially to know complex structure of the vellum documents, Chapter II: Form and Use of the Vellum Documents in Part I is beneficial.
